IWAS (Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation) is a British organisation International that was formed in 2004 following the amalgamation of International Stoke Mandeville Wheelchair Sports Federation and the International Sport Organisation for the Disabled. The IWAS Under 23 World Games and IWAS World Games sees athletes of all abilities from 14 years up to ‘Masters’ (35 years +) participating on an international platform.

The IWAS U23 World Games are organised annually under the patronage of the International
Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation/IWAS. This year the number countries participating have
reached 30! The World Games include a selection of traditional sport disciplines, all of which are
organised in accordance with the applicable rules of the Paralympics. Currently, the IWAS U23 World
Games are among the largest events of this kind and have significant developmental potential. In
2016, this will be one of the last opportunities for the athletes to meet the qualifying standards for the Paralympic Games, which take place in Rio de Janeiro in September 2016.

Organiser under the patronage of IWAS: Emil Foundation
Target group: physically disabled athletes aged 14 to 23 years
The Emil Foundation (Nadační fond Emil) www.emilnadace.cz is a non-profit organisation that helps disabled children and young people up to 30 years of age, mainly in the form of direct financial assistance to support their activities in sport, culture and education. Until 2003, it was the "Emil Project" of the Czech Paralympic Committee. In 2009, the project was officially declared the Emil Foundation. To date, it has supported over 8,000 children and young people. Its primary mission is to be a symbol of effective assistance to these people throughout the Czech Republic, help them overcome their own barriers, make new friends and discover "their own" sense of life through various activities.
In recent years, the Emil Foundation has successfully organised 5 European Paralympic Committee Youth Games, which since 2009 have been attended by over 2,400 participants from 14 European countries.

Opening Ceremony of the IWAS U23 World Games
Date: Wednesday 29.6.
Place: Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) Prague 1
13:00 – 15:00 Presentation of sports clubs for the disabled
Local clubs will be presented on the square – floorball, basketball, rugby, table tennis, golf and
football. Presentations of the individual sports will also take place to promote the IWAS Games and
disability sport. The public will be encouraged to take part as well as athletes who wish to try the
other sports on offer.
16:00 – 17:00 Opening Ceremony
The festive opening ceremony will begin with a parade of all the teams. At the end of the parade all athletes will gather in front of the podium and the official part will begin.
There will be greetings by the IWAS President, director of the officiating Emil Foundation, and Mayor
of Prague. Oaths will be read by a chosen athlete, official and coach followed by the official opening
